Airport continues to expand and you'll probably find work in the development process, which is now a major project to International Terminal. Airport has been changed twice in the last few decades, some people still refer to the old name with the Johannesburg International Airport or Jan Smuts International Airport.
Johannesburg International Airport to leave the car
If you rent a car, you will find a car desk is located on the floor of a multi-car park opposite the Domestic Terminal. Once you have your car and you exit the airport you will have the option of heading north on the R21 towards Pretoria, Mpumalanga and the Kruger National Park, or head west on the R24 towards Johannesburg.
If you do not rent a car at the airport, you can find a taxi rank and bus car behind the desk. You will also find Magic Bus Airport Transfer service which offers a shuttle bus to Pretoria or Johannesburg.
How to Johannesburg International Airport
If you return your car to the South African airport you can simply drive to the airport which is located in Kempton Park around 20km east of downtown Johannesburg.
Airport which is located on the junction of R21 and R24 freeways. From Johannesburg, follow the R24 east and take exit 46, from Pretoria, follow the R21 south and take exit 46. Airport well signposted so you should not have any problems.
Whether in the Johannesburg International Airport?
There are six terminals at the airport, but this is split between the international terminal, domestic terminal, and transit terminals. Transit terminal is being demolished and built a new Central Terminal to the central passenger check-in area and more gates.
In addition to the new Central Terminal have a new parking lot, a new train terminal and several other upgrades at the airport was built. This is coming online when they are ready so that the facility will change as time goes on.
All that you expect from a major international airport is catered for. There are ATMs, banks and bureaux of the changes in the airport, and the post office. Mobile phone hire is also available. Wireless internet access available in the International Departures area.
There are also many places to eat and drink. Including food outlets Spur Family Restaurant, Cafe Rossini, Juicy Lucy, Nando's, Salmon House, Steers, Debonairs Pizza, Ocean Seafood Basket and McGinty's Pub & Restaurant. Other facilities include 24 hour medical clinic, a chapel, Muslim prayer room and baby change facilities.
The airport information desk is located in International Arrivals and Departures, and Domestic Arrivals. Information and flight details are available via the airport helpdesk. The Gauteng Tourism Authority Information Desk is located in the International Arrivals Terminal.
OR International Airport legend also function as the basis for South African Airways Museum, a room filled with South African Airways and memorabilia that started as a idea by two fans of the airline until they can be set in one of the Jan Smuts International building in 1987 - well worth checking out!
