Durban International Airport, formerly Louis Botha Airport, is the main airport serving the Durban City. It is located about 18kms to the south of the city and serves most domestic flights. Although there are some international flights to Indonesia and Swaziland, if you want to fly here you may do so through a connection flight at Cape Town International Airport or Johannesburg International Airport.
Currently there is construction in progress in the new international airport for Durban. That is being built near La Mercy which is located approximately 30kms north of the city. New airport is expected to be completed in time for the World Cup 2010, which means that the changeover in Johannesburg or Cape Town will no longer be required and this will hopefully encourage tourists to the city of trade. The new airport will be called King Shaka International Airport and opened when there is a means Durban International Airport will be decommissioned.
